Asyut (Markaz Asyūţ)
Asyut (أسيوط Asyūṭ, from ⲥⲓⲟⲟⲩⲧ, ⲥⲓⲱⲟⲩⲧ Siōwt ) is the capital of the modern Asyut Governorate in Egypt. It was built close to the ancient city of the same name, which is situated nearby. The modern city is located at 27.18333°N, 31.16667°W, while the ancient city is located at 27.16667°N, 31.13333°W. The city is home to one of the largest Coptic Catholic churches in the country.

The republic was led by Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser. The UAR was a member of the United Arab States, a loose confederation with the Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen, which was dissolved in 1961.
